  1. It is impossible for Wacko to have sold a billion records, especially in the era of internet piracy and free downloads. Michael Jackson only sold 200 million before his death, 9 to 12 million after his death. The only artists that sold billions of records are Pelvis and The Beatles. I do not claim inflated numbers for Prince, but he most definately is clobbering Michael Jackson in sales with his enormous back catalogue of albums and hits.

  2. ? Why you don’t post this comment. It’s a 12 times ….. repeat again??…

  3. The new milestone continues Jackson’s reign as the best-selling artist of all time, with over 100 million sales for “Thriller” worldwide and 1 billion total sales to his credit.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller has become the first album ever to be certified 30 times multi-platinum for U.S. sales, marking more than 30 million sales in the States.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) made the announcement Wednesday (Dec. 15) with the Estate of Michael Jackson, Epic Records and Legacy Recordings, as the new milestone continues Jackson’s reign as the most selling artist of all time with over 100 million sales for Thriller worldwide and 1 billion total sales to his credit.

Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’: Classic Track-By-Track Review

“RIAA has awarded Gold & Platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30X multi-Platinum plateau,” RIAA chairman and CEO Cary Sherman said in a statement. “We are honored to celebrate the unique status of Thriller in Gold & Platinum history. What an exceptional achievement and testament to Thriller’s enduring spot in our hearts and musical history.”

Jackson’s Thriller was released Nov. 30 1982 and spent nearly 2 1/2 years on the Billboard album chart with 37 weeks at No. 1, holding the modern day record. It was also the first album in history to spend its first 80 weeks in the album chart’s top 10, which has only been replicated once since.

The Quincy Jones and Jackson-produced LP was also the first ever certified RIAA 20 times multi-platinum, doing so after 112 weeks on the album chart — less than two years in all. Seven tracks off the album became top 10 singles with three — “Beat It,” “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” — topping the singles chart.

Worldwide, Thriller topped charts in nearly every market, hitting No. 1 in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and apartheid South Africa. The album won a record-setting 8 Grammys with nominations in 12 categories — another first.

“It is crystal clear that Michael Jackson is simply the greatest and biggest artist of all time,” Epic Records chairman and CEO LA Reid said in a statement. “Not only are his charts hits and sales stats staggering, but his pure musicality was other-worldly. Thriller was groundbreaking and electrifying…it was perfection. I am extremely proud that Michael is the heart and soul of Epic Records and he will forever remain the one-and-only King of Pop.”

  4. Michael Jackson had no talent, unless it was convincing fools that he was. Prince certainly was way more talented. The purple one is ruling the world charts. Look at Prince’s amazing sales. He has easily beaten and surpassed Michael Jackson. That animal was promptly removed from the record books.

    • Can You give me the link where ik can Find the 182 million sales from Prince.

  5. “The Very Best Of Prince” is a brand new number one album for Prince as of May of 2016. On the singles charts, both “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry” recharted in the upper reaches of the top ten. We know that “You Are Not Alone” was Michael Jackson’s last number one pop hit in the US, and “Earth Song” was his last number one in Europe in 1995. That was over 21 years ago. Prince is still selling like wildfire, but you Michael Jackson fans automatically cover your eyes and ears to the truth of Prince’s domination over your tarnished hero. Why is that?

  8. Wacko definitely has poor sales.

Wacko’s last number one pop single was in 1995, over 21 years ago. Of course, Michael Jackson cried and blamed the “devil” Sony for his dwindling sales. Nevermind, that the woodpecker made racist comments and saw nothing wrong with s******* with various victims in his b**. All caught on candid camera or audio. Because of his behavior, 100 million Michael Jackson CD’s were disgarded in the trash bins around the international globe.

    Never happened to Prince.

  9. Everything about Wacko was fake.

    His nose.
    His chin.
    His awards.
    His inflated sales numbers.
    His marriages.
    His text tube children.
    His videos.
His songs. (not composed by the woodpecker)
    His dancing.
    His stage performances (lip synced)
    His hair.
    And more…..

Wacko was a compulsive liar. He lived in a fantasy world of delusion and dirty tricks to manipulate the media, his faithful flock.

Prince did not have to play that game. It was all about making music.

  10. Wacko lied and played dirty tricks. His fans just repeat them, hoping that they will stick as bond. In reality, Wacko made so little. He used the over rated sales of Thriller to claim impossible sales for just 7 studio albums in the last 3 decades of his life because he did not want to work, unless it got huge sales. Prince did not care how much he sold. He was doing music out of love, not hyped up sales numbers to inflate and stroke his ego.

Prince loved music. Wacko loved publicity and payola.

  11. Correction:

It is now hovering towards 182 million in sales for Prince. Why do you clowns always take numbers from the past and suggest that they are never going to be updated?

Yet, you believe grossly inflated figures for Michael Jackson that are impossible in the age of free downloads and internet piracy of music.

    • Prince Has 300 million sales.

This week he is gonna have another 50 million sales World wide.

      He surpassed elvis and Michael.

  12. I expect red judgements because you Michael Jackson fans are blind for Wacko. It means nothing. It’s not the real world. Everybody knows that Prince fought Warner Brothers for creative expression and went out of his way to do uncommercial music for the sake of artistic freedom, which meant very little support in promotion. That is because Prince already had enough money and did not care. He just wanted to put out multiple discs of music for his hardcore fans that appreciate superiority. Otherwise, Prince would not have made Jazz recordings. Prince wanted to do other things besides make pop hits. He was a musical genius and got bored with playing the recording industry games. So Prince purposely cut down his sales for art?

His most popular records and greatest hits collections are still selling well to the masses. Wacko never did Classical or Jazz recordings because all he he could ever do is dance and lip sync under the flashing lights.
