[DJBooth’s new app, The PLUG, delivers our best writing (like this article) straight to your phone every day. It’s amazing, it’s free, and you need it in your life. Get it now!]

The release of Views began the summer of Drake and for the past nine weeks the Toronto superstar has dominated the headlines, topped the charts and broken records. For the last seven weeks, hit single “One Dance” has been No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Simultaneously, for the last seven weeks, Views has been the No. 1 album in the country – an impressive dominance that only further supports the claim Drake is the biggest pop/rap star in the world.

This accomplishment is far from common. The last artist to have the No. 1 song and the No. 1 album on the charts for seven consecutive weeks was Michael Jackson, who accomplished the feat in 1983 with Thriller and “Billie Jean.” As Complex pointed out, Michael and Drake are the only male solo artists in chart history to achieve this mark – Whitney Houston and The Beatles are the only others to pull off this impressive record.

Being No. 1 for a ninth straight week also catapults Views over The Marshall Mathers LP, the last hip-hop album to be No. 1 for eight consecutive weeks. Views now holds the title for spending the third-most weeks at No. 1 by a hip-hop album. If Drake can keep this run going for 12 more weeks, he will surpass Vanilla Ice’s To The Extreme (16 Weeks at No. 1) and MC Hammer’s Please Don’t Hurt ‘Em (21 Weeks At No. 1).

With ScHoolboy Q’s Blank Face LP set for release this Friday, TDE’s grooviest gangster could bring an end to Drake’s summer sixteen on the throne. There’s a great amount of anticipation around Q’s new album, and if that anticipation translates into sales and stream equivalents than Drake will have to settle for third place on the all-time list. This week is big for both ScHoolboy and Drake, a battle between a superstar and a star with the budding potential to be much more.

Breaking records left and right further proves that Drake is at the height of his popularity (and that it’s easier than ever to break records thanks to a confusing charting system that includes streaming equivalent totals). Views may not be the best rap album of 2016, but it’s the most successful by a mile.

  2. Breaking news:

Rapper Drake has just beaten Michael Jackson for the longest stay on top of the charts with both his current #1 album, “Views” and his single, “One Dance.” Looks like another record has been broken and shattered for the fading legacy of the once glorious McJackson. Eye continue to laugh & laugh & laugh & laugh. The bad news keeps coming for the embattled estate and his ever dwindling flock. The woodpecker has again been removed from the record books, including Billboard and the Guinness.

  3. Michael McJackson fans have learned from manipulative hero. They feed on deception. It is the act of making someone believe something that is not true: The act of deceiving someone: An act or statement intended to make people believe something…

McJackson brainwashed them and used his inflations of self worth to get his flock to hopelessly believe in his propaganda campaigns.

  4. Prince had to overdose to get on the charts?

    “Sometimes It Snows In April.”

Unfortunately for you, your obvious deception is another blank statement. In 2014, Prince put 2 brand new albums on in the top 10.

    “Plectrumelectrum” peaked @ #8.
“Art Offical Age” peaked @ #5.

Again, eye do not know why both volumes of Prince’s “Hit N Run” releases did not catch fire with the pubic. “The Very Best Of Prince” is the one getting all the new sales. “Purple Rain” is the album that returned to the #2 spot in 2016, while the reissue of “Off The Wall” peaked @ an embarrassingly low #61.

According to you, eye lie. It is a neat little trick that compulsive liars do. They aviod the truth by accusing other people of lying. Clearly, eye simply goggle up the information to back up my claims.

  5. Where are the lies?

Eye simply used the links that you provided.

“Essential Michael Jackson” did fall a whopping 33 notches from #15 to #48 in Australia in just one week. “The Very Best Of Prince” actually picked up sales by jumping up from #18 to #15.

You are the one claiming that Prince is being forgotten, but ignore McJackson appears one week, disappears the next.

Prince can hold steady. However, you do not want to give him credit for holding his own on the worldwide charts?

  6. Oops….looky what we have here. “Essential Michael McJackson” was @ #86 in France, but has disappeared this week. Instead, the highest release Wacky could muster there is with “Thriller” @ a very disappointing #148. “The Very Best Of Prince” is @ #124, a good 24 notches higher than McJackson. The Australian ARIA charts is even more amusing. “The Very Best Of Prince” actually jumped up from #18 to #15. “Essential Michael McJackson” nosedived a whopping #33 notches from #15 to #48. Again, McJackson finds himself @ the very bottom down under. Thanks for posting the link for the French charts, hammy. Now, we can all check out how badly McJackson is selling in Paris. Pepe Le Pew?

    • Prince neede to overdose to get on the charts.
Check the charts on april this year NO Prince.
Purple Rain is almost gone everywhere.
      Average

I need to check it first because You lie a lot

  7. That song of “” Falling In Love “” was a better song here upstairs !!! In the most movies they used that song of Falling in love with you !!!!
Also in the new movie Conjuring 2 is Elvis there !!!!

O jes I saw the Eye red Lady playing as the Non Demon !!!!! lol

  8. Michael Jackson fans ALWAYS excuse others of lying and cheating, but ALWAYS seem to lie and cheat for their disgraced, tarnished and career dead idol. Reverse accusations are a neat little magic trick that does not for Michael anymore. Michael’s actions are currently being highlighted on a global scale. The media is having a field day. Not any of the new revelations is good news. Michael Jackson is done now. Completely over.

    • MJ fans don’t lied. There was many more proofs @ cheaters for EP. But all these evidences were removed. This is the truth. I know someone who have more of its, but isn’t important for nobody @ cheat! All polls are a funny joke! No one is serious. The most credible votes are of BoA, but I’m not so sure. I think there was once a very little cheat. That’s all we know @ cheating. EP fans are the big shameless cheaters, of course. Indisputable proofs, watch the comments on AoA – there is a proof.

  9. Great strategy you have going for a Wacky tacky win. Do you feel vindicated knowing that to have to play dirty and cheat to get there?

    Quite embarrassing.

It is actually amusing to see Wacky on the bottom with his cheap CD’s. Do any of them have any value more than the price of a single gumball?

  10. Hammy is obviously very angry with me for going after Michael McJackson. The fact is, eye did not cause his downfall. Eye was once a fan myself, but turned against him in 1993. Eye loved Prince too. Eye just switched to ALL Prince and have never looked back. Eye look forward to more Prince and the grand opening of Paisley Park.

  11. #86 with “The Essential Michael Jackson” is hardly impressive. The rest of McJackson’s CD’s are on the bottom of the charts in France. It’s interesting because eye never heard of most of the artists charting there. Eye continue to laugh. You are bragging about Wacky being @ the #86 position?

It is a long way from the top, hammy.

Roman Polanski moved to France. McJackson fell hard even in France. So funny. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are doing quite well with their new CD. “Under The Bridge” you go.

  12. Big wow. McJackson managed a puny #15 in Australia, where hardly anyone buys CD’s. “The Very Best Of Prince” is still holding steady in the rest of the world. It is not dropping completely off the charts or hovering on the bottom like a slug sucking fishy. That is Michael McJackson. Eye thought you claimed McJackson was a worldwide artist, hammy?

It is sooooooo desperate that you Michael McJackson fans have been reduced to bragging about a peak of #15 for the wild woodpecker. It used to be bragging @ #1’s and then, top 10’s. Now, #15 is all he can muster, down under…. (the very bottom of the earth) Eye laugh & laugh & laugh…..

So funny. How many cheap “Greatest Hits” collections does Wacko have in the bargain bins again?

They continue to be packed tight in the clearence bins in the US. Mass produced and made to sell cheap. AC/DC is from Australia.

“Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap” definitely does not apply to Michael McJackson. He had to pay out @ least $200 million dollars to his victims to keep their little mouths shut. lol.
